At Global Voices we don't have an office, a water cooler, or a local bar. But we do have our own chat room. This is where we hold meetings regularly.

Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is a protocol for chatting over the internet. You access an IRC room through a client by telling it the server and room you want to join.

The Global Voices IRC Server is:

irc.freenode.net

The Room is named

#globalvoices

IRC Chat in a web browser

You can log into the Global Voices IRC room in your browser window by accessing Mibbit.com

In the drop-down menu select: freenode
Where is says "Nick" write your nickname, where it says "Channel" write #globalvoices

ChatZilla the Firefox Extension

If you use Firefox, you can use the chat extension called ChatZilla. Activate Chatzilla and click on the URL [1] to take you directly to the WordPress IRC channel.

IRC Client Applications

Some people may prefer to access the chatroom via client applications that may offer more options for display and archiving.
