At Global Voices we don't have an office, a water cooler, or a local bar. But we do have our own chat room. This is where we hold meetings regularly.

Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is a protocol for chatting over the internet. You access an IRC room through a client by telling it the server and room you want to join.

The Global Voices IRC Server is:

irc.freenode.net

The Room is named

#globalvoices

IRC Chat in a web browser

You can log into the Global Voices IRC room in your browser window by accessing http://webchat.freenode.net

Where is says "Nickname" write your nickname, where it says "Channel" write #globalvoices

Click Connect! That's it.

ChatZilla the Firefox Extension

If you use Firefox, you can use the chat extension called ChatZilla. Activate Chatzilla and click on the URL [1] to take you directly to the GlobalVoices IRC channel and that URL [2] for GVmena IRC channel.

IRC Client Applications

Some people may prefer to access the chatroom via client applications that may offer more options for display and archiving.
