How to Use This Wiki / HELP!
Adding New Pages
If you want to create a new page, just go to the url where the article WOULD be and click the edit tab. So, for example, if you want to create a page called 'Using Rss Aggregators' you can just go to this url (just add the title of the post to the end of the normal url but with _'s instead of spaces):
http://globalvoicesonline.org/wiki/article/Using_Rss_Aggregators
When you visit the url you will be able to use the 'edit' button at the top to add content, then just save and the page is ready. You should make sure to create some links to the page so that people can find it though.
Creating Links
You can create links within a wiki page (like this homepage) to other pages by using the 'internal link' button in the editor or by just entering the name of the article you want to link to in the text inside square brackets. So if you put the following text in your article it would create a link like Using Rss Aggregators :
[[Using Rss Aggregators]]
A great way to create a page is to add a link to a non-existent page from one that does exist. After saving, you click the red link which will take you to the edit screen for the new page.
Using Wiki Categories
The last thing you need to do to keep the wiki organized is add categories to your pages so that people can find all similar pages. Categories should be standard across many pages, so look for an existing category you could use rather than creating a new one (we should have one 'Guides' category, rathar than 'Guides', 'GV Tutorials', 'GV Help' etc competing for articles).
To add a wiki category to an article, just add text like the following (with the category you want to use) :
[[Category:GV Help]]
That will automatically create a link to the category page at the bottom of the article. Category pages list all articles tagged with that category, so they can be very useful to see if there is related documentation or a similar article.
If you just want to LINK to the category page (like i do above on the homepage) then add a colon before the category link inside the square brackets:
[[:Category:Rising Voices Guides]]
Global Voices 2010 Summit!
The "internal meeting" of the Global Voices summit will be held on May 8 and 9 in Santiago, Chile. This provides an opportunity for members of the community to meet in person and discuss the future direction of the organization. While not every single Global Voices author, editor, and translator will be able to attend the summit in person we will make sure that remote users are able to stay involved and participate through the use of live chat and updated blog posts.
- Ideas for workshops at the closed meeting
- Independent travel plans before and after the summit
- Ideas for fun activities to promote cross-region and cross-project interaction
- Recommendations for things to do around Santiago
- Proposed program for public days
